Fellow Rotarians both Christine Ross from Parkland School Division and MLA Turton have confirmed that they will be joining us for lunch this Thursday. I am hoping to hear from PSD that we are continuing to move forward with the School Lunch program come September and what the partnership/relationship will look like.
We'll be starting to meet in person at the Super 8 on April 21 and the meeting start and end times will return to being 12:10 to 1:30, respectively. There will be two lunch options;
$25.00 - full lunch - sandwich of the day, choice salad/fries, dessert, coffee/tea/water
$12.50 - dessert + coffee/tea
Payment will be in person every week. We'll have punch cards available with each chit on the card worth $12.50 that you can buy in advance. An email reminder will come out every week. Registration by Tuesday guarantees your meal choice. If you show up on Thursday without registering, you may be able to order off the menu or you may be out of luck for lunch.
The Darkness Into Light Walk (DIL) is looking for volunteers to take a spot on the trail as the walkers pass, mostly for safety reasons. (The walk happens in the early morning darkness). The job is not onerous, as your station would be lit and you would only be out there in two’s perhaps an hour and a half.
The time for volunteers to arrive IS onerous. Volunteers would have to arrive by 3:00 a.m. ( no kidding) so that you can be in place by 4:15 a.m. (again… no kidding).
Where: Victoria Park in the Edmonton River Valley.
Date: Saturday, May 7.
Time: 3:00 a.m. to about 5:30 a.m.
It is an amazing experience, though, and those organizing and taking part would be very grateful for your help.
On April 6 we will have tickets available for the Stand Up for Mental Health Comedy show and other activities.
The event will take place May 5. Cost $45. Cocktails are at 5:30, Dinner at 6 and the comedy show to follow. Award winning comic David Granirer has been working with 8 area residents on stand-up comedy show for the community. Seating is limited. Find this and other Mental Health Week events on our website.
Our Club has received a very nice letter from the Canadian Blood Services (CBS), congratulating us on our 25 years of helping with blood donor clinics.
Normally, the CBS would take a few of us to lunch and present a plaque or something. They cannot do that anymore so have sent us a nice pin to commemorate our work. Congrats to you all.
Join the City of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain, Parkland County, and the Parkland Area Volunteer Action Committee (PAVAC) this National Volunteer Week for a celebration of community stewardship. The nationwide campaign will take place from April 24 to April 30. Click this link to learn more.

Please let Brad know if you're interested in attending by filling out this short form and he'll coordinate the group registration. Hotel details are forthcoming for those of you wishing to stay at the Fantasyland Hotel where the conference is being held. If you have never been to a Rotary district conference or are the most recent Chris Gerritse Award winner (Rotarian of the Year), you are eligible for your conference registration and up to $200 of travel and accommodation costs to be reimbursed!
Change Health Alberta is a registered non-profit and charity that focuses on advancing health through the key pillars of physical activity, nutrition and social connection. These areas are co-designed with community for community to honour the unique land, relationships and regional assets across Alberta. Since its inception, CHANGE Health Alberta has worked to build the community and offer meaningful learning experiences. This year, our organization has invested in the creation of the CHANGE Centre which enables us to focus on more live events that bring the community together.
What?
Tipi Teachings is a partnership with our friends from Treaties 6, 7, and 8 who have been invited by CHANGE Health to share their story and create space for you to share your story. You are being invited to create authentic social connections, explore new stories and experience the land. Each date offers a new experience where you might bring your own questions and form new friendships or perhaps, discover that we are all truly related in some way. The goal of this is to protect our mental, emotional and physical health by deepening community and honouring the land.
Where?
The Change Centre is located in Magnolia, Alberta along the Pembina River at 54404 Range Road 65. These events, including stew and bannock, are held primarily outside. The teachings are held inside of a warmed tipi. All guests are welcome to bring activewear and enjoy the 15km of trails before or after the formal teachings. Physical abilities will be accommodated.
